May 19th 2010 Newsletter:
Hello everyone,
Greetings and happy springtime from everyone at Next Barn Over.
Things here at the farm are in full motion... plants are thriving in the Hadley soil; sun, rain, and our farm crew are all taking turns nurturing the crops; and there is a shiny new sign hung out in front of the barn. We are looking forward to a first harvest of salad greens: arugula, bok choi, kale, tatsoi, mustard, and mizuna, as well as spring turnip, scallions, head lettuce, spinach, and possibly some other good treats.
Our 2010 season is off to a great start, in large part due to our truly incredible farm crew, Kristen, Mary, Sara, and Jasper, our membership coordinator/bookkeeper extraordinaire Alice, tractor wiz Al, and the steady guidance of Michael Docter. They are all big-hearted, hard-working folks that we love spending our days with.
Our first share day is right around the corner and we are looking forward to seeing you all soon!
First Share Day!
Our first share day will be Wednesday June 2nd. For those of you who are signed up for Monday pick up, no worries, we will end our share in the fall on Monday November 1st to make sure that everyone has come an equal number of weeks (22 weeks total).
Shareroom hours are: Monday 2-7 pm, Wednesday 2-7 pm, and Friday 12-4 pm
Please stick to the pick-up day you originally signed up for. This will make it much easier for us to harvest according to how many people we are expecting. If you have forgotten which day that is, or if you need to switch days, please contact Alice at membership@nextbarnover.com. Alice will also have a list available in the shareroom on opening week if you need to double check.
Open Barn Potluck Celebration
To celebrate the start of the season we are having a potluck gathering on Saturday May 29th from 5-7pm at the barn, 15 Lawrence Plain Rd. Come join us to see the new barn and shareroom, meet your farmers and fellow sharemembers, enjoy live music and break bread together. If you can, please bring food or drink to share. We will be around to answer any questions, give you a tour, or just chat.
Food Stamps for Farm Shares
With the goal of making membership more affordable and accessible, we are happy to say that we can now accept SNAP/food stamp benefits for farm shares. Please help spread the word, and call Tory at 413-885-5123 for more info.
Meeting Place Pastures
Last call for purchasing a meat CSA share from Mark and Cheryl at Meeting Place Pastures. They are getting close to full for the season. For more information or to sign-up, see their website at: http://www.meetingplacepastures.com
We hope you can join us for the potluck on the 29th and look forward to the growing season with you.
Gratefully and on behalf of the whole Next Barn Over crew,
Ray and Tory
